Origin

A brewery built to waste nothing

Idle Cycles Collective started with three unused acres and a simple brief: build a brewery that runs as lean and clean as possible, with a small team overseeing the parts that matter.

Solar arrays, a closed-loop water system, and a mostly automated brewhouse went in — designed to need as little hands-on time as we could manage.

The result ferments, filters, reclaims, and restocks itself, and asks almost nothing of the people who drink there.

Process

Four systems, one small team

Solar & grid intake

Continuous renewable draw, battery-buffered to keep fermentation running overnight.

Automated brew cycle

Grain to fermentation to tank, monitored by the team and adjusted as needed.

Water reclamation

Process water is filtered and returned to a closed loop. Nothing goes to waste.

Spent grain output

Routed to on-site biofuel conversion and regional feed partners, automatically.

The one exception

Five minutes of human input

We automated every function in this building except one. Pedal the exercise bike in the taproom for five minutes, feed real watts back into the grid, and the system pours you a free pint. It's the only job here we decided not to hand off.
